Landers brings jobs to Southaven
Today, a DeSoto County auto dealership becomes the newest GMC franchise in the United States and with it will come 50 new jobs.
Landers Buick GMC opens its doors today at 78 Goodman Road in Southaven and Kent Ritchey, president, said they are expecting a huge crowd the entire week.
They will be offering free oil changes for the first 25 customers each day. This free service, as part of the opening celebration, begins today at 7 a.m. and will continue through Saturday. This service will be provided on a first-come basis.
Randy Paton is the managing partner and will serve as the general manager of this latest Landers location. A Potts Camp native, he has 22 years experience in the auto business, 18 of them as an associate of Ritchey. Paton now resides in Olive Branch.
Both Paton and Ritchey said they had been eyeing this particular location for a long period of time and believe it is the 'hub' of DeSoto County, being on Goodman and Airways and just off the I-55 corridor. Paton also joked, "We have the largest American flag around and you can see it for miles."
Besides selling Buick and GMC vehicles, this location will also be offering a service department Monday through Saturday. "You will be able to get the same service Saturday afternoon at 4 that you can get on Monday at 10 a.m.," Ritchey noted.
"We will have certified-tested GMC technicians," he added.
A total of 150-60 persons are employed at the other locations in DeSoto County which are Landers Dodge-Jeep-Ram, Landers Nissan and Landers Auto Sales, which carries used vehicles. In the metropolitan area, they also have Landers Ford-Lincoln in Collierville.
Ritchey did not disclose the total monetary investment for Landers Buick GMC but admitted, "We spent a half million dollars in renovations alone."
