Ford Focus Electric hooks up wirelessly with AT&T

AT&T is keeping up its wheeling and dealing this week, signing an agreement with Ford to provide the built-in wireless connectivity for its upcoming Focus Electric hatchback. The deal's pretty simple, really. Ford has put together a comprehensive MyFord Mobile application to go with its EV, which will allow you to keep track of and schedule charging, while also serving up status notifications, range information, and nearby recharging stations' locations, the latter facility being provided with the help of MapQuest. All that data exchange will need a nice dumb pipe to carry it between the Focus and your smartphone and AT&T is obligingly fulfilling that role -- and don't worry if your phone doesn't support the app (works with Android, BlackBerry and iOS), Ford's got a web interface too.

Check out the myBuick iOS app!

Picture_1

This application is intended for owners of Buick 2011 model year and newer vehicles. The myBuick App is designed to provide convenient, mobile access to practical and functional features a car owner would want at the touch of a button.

The Find My Car feature lets you mark where you parked on a map so you can find it easily, no matter how big the parking lot. Easily schedule service, or get roadside assistance when you need it, fast. If a warning light appears on your dashboard, the Warning Lights visual reference guide takes the guesswork out of what it means. And, you can look up more information on the Owner’s Manual. Does your friend really like your new car or crossover? Current Offers makes it easy for you to tell them what offers are on the vehicle, and locate a dealer.

From the myBuick owner app, you also have one touch access to OnStar MyLink(1), where you can remotely lock or unlock vehicle doors, or get important car information like fuel level, oil life or tire pressure.

1. Requires active OnStar subscription, standard for 6 months on many Buick models.

Mopar app acts as electronic owners manual for Dodge vehicles

Dodge-apps_610x667

Dodge is launching a group of free apps for Android, iPhone, or BlackBerry smartphone platforms. Boasting a feature set similar to that of the Hyundai Equus' iPad app, the Mopar apps act as a digital owners' manual, as well as offering access to owner services.

After downloading the app for their smartphone platform of choice, users will be given access to all of the vehicle operation, warranty, and maintenance information that one would normally find in a paper manual, as well as video demonstrations of features. The smartphone's data connection also allows access to 24-hour roadside assistance, customer care, and Dodges various social media sites for connecting with other owners. Dodge can also make updates to the e-manual through the cloud.

Apps for the Dodge Charger and Durango are currently available for download, with apps for the Dodge Avenger, Journey, and Grand Caravan becoming available in "mid-January 2011." Considering that it's already late-January 2011, we should be seeing them any day now. In addition to the Dodge vehicles, we've also spotted apps for the Chrysler 200 and 300, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Ram Trucks, so we expect to see more apps for the rest of the Chrysler group models popping up in the future.
